About Us

Join us for worship at Valley Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) every Sunday at 10:30am

We invite you to worship with us on Sunday, a time of praise, prayer and the gathering around the Lord’s Table for our time of communion. We are a small congregation with big hearts dedicated to serving others through our talents and gifts and we view every opportunity to share as a gift from God. We are a loving and welcoming congregation that seeks to live out the hospitality and caring concern our Lord not only demonstrated but lived throughout his ministry.

We are located at 2600 Cherokee Pl, Mountain Brook, AL 35216

We look forward to welcoming you and your family to our church service. To make sure your Sunday morning experience is as meaningful as possible, here is what you can expect when you worship with us. Our all ages services start at 10:30am. We also offer quiet activities for young people to engage with during worship.

We partake in Holy Communion every Sunday and it is available to all who believe Jesus Christ to be the Messiah, the Son of the living God. For hygiene reasons, we offer individually enclosed communion elements.

If you are unable to worship with us in-person, feel free to follow along via ZOOM at 10:30am with ID 867 5713 3623, Passcode 205879

As a Disciples of Christ congregation, we adhere to the following beliefs and religious practices:

  • We are a people of the Lord, believing in the life, teachings, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and proclaiming Him as our Messiah and Savior who offers to us the gift of God’s grace.
  • We are a people of the Lord’s book, believing that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and recognizing that interpreting it is the privilege and responsibility of all believers.
  • We are a people of the Lord’s table, offering holy communion at every Sunday worship to all followers of Jesus, regardless of church or denominational affiliation.
  • We are a people of open membership, practicing baptism by immersion whenever possible and welcoming believers from other traditions.
  • We are a people of sacrificial giving, voluntarily donating our time, skills, and financial resources to the church and to our wider community.
  • We are a people of unity, seeking the building of relationship and connection across God’s church rather than sectarianism and segregation.
  • We are a people of liberty, believing in the freedom of individual discernment of the Scriptures and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
  • We are a people of the priesthood of all, believing in the ministry of all believers—all races, all ethnicities, all nationalities, all genders, and all ages.

Our Leadership

Rick Malugani – Senior Pastor

Rick Malugani has been our senior minister since January 2, 2024. He is a 2017 graduate of Lexington Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree. He began his ministerial journey at the age of 50 when he heard the call from God to move from the congregation to the pulpit. He brings authenticity to his ministry and believes that his life experiences before his call allow him to relate well to the issues and challenges many people face day to day. Rick brings passion and energy along with a good sense of humor to this ministry and believes that the best is yet to come. He and his wife Ellen have seven grandchildren, four of which live close by and they cherish the time they get to spend with them. Rick’s hobbies include basketball, woodworking, reading as well as taking day trips with his wife.
